Wednesday, Dec 5 Romantic poetry project info

TODAY: Vocabulary quiz on the 10 words from The Fall of the House of Usher
Nick and Allison will present question 9
In class: you will be pick out a Romantic poem by either an English or American author. You will then read and reread and reread (yup 3 times, at least)your poem, noting the following: the meaning of every word, the rhyme scheme, poetic devices, such as-but not limited to- metaphors, similes, sound (alliteration, consonance, assonance), personification, apostrophe, caesura, onomatopoeia, oxymoron, synecdoche- imagery, speaker, occasion and repetition. Do you note any analogies, ambiguities, contrasts, euphemisms, hyperboles, irony, symbols or paradox.
If any of these are unfamiliar, look over the poetry handout that I gave you the first week of school and asked you to keep as a reference tool throughout the year. (it had hole punches)

Now what?  You will find out some information about your poet.  Take a few notes. Find an image.

Now you are going to present to the class beginning on Monday, December 10.

How? You will create a stixy.  Take a look at this website. I put a model together for you. Yours will be more sophisticated- I hope and expect. This is a very simple program.

You will have 7 minutes to present your poem. If you do not have an audio link, you will need to read your poem to the class. Please, please remember that if there is no punctuation at the end of a line, you do not stop. Also, you may not turn your back to the audience, so have a print out of the poem to read.
We'll draw lots as to the order. If you are not ready, you loose 10 points off the top per day and will need to come in after school.

Creativity is highly encouraged.

Check list:
  1. poem  (got to have this) with rhyme
     scheme   (lower case letters only)
  2. stixy note with vocab and definitions
  3. stixy note with poem excerpts for each poetic
     and sound device.
4. image of your poet
5. associative image
6. Demonstrated you have effectively used the program. This includes fonts, colors and balance.
